Meta cresol, also known as meta methylphenol, is usually a colorless or pale yellow liquid at room temperature. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in solvents such as ethanol, ether, and sodium hydroxide. It is flammable.

Mainly used as an intermediate for pesticides, it produces insecticides such as fenitrothion, fenthion, methomyl, and permethrin. It is also an intermediate for color films, resins, plasticizers, and fragrances.
