2,6-dimethylphenol is a colorless and transparent liquid with a melting point of 49 ℃ and a boiling point of 203 ℃. Easily soluble in alcohol, ether, chloroform, benzene, and alkaline solutions, slightly soluble in water.

Mainly used in the production of polyphenylene ether resin, photographic agents, pesticides, polyester and polyether resins. 2,6-dicresol can be converted into antiarrhythmic drug bradycardia through hydroxypropylation, oxidation, condensation, hydrogenation, and salt formation.
